BACKGROUND TO VOCARE

Sue Furlong, founder of Vocare, had the idea in early 2007 of setting up a choir that would become a choral group of excellence. Styles of music including classical, contemporary, pop, world and ethnic would be explored. Sue's vision musically is to bring programmes of mixed genres to new audiences. and also introduce to those new to choral singing, a refreshing approach to all kinds of music.
When Sue advertised her ideas for this fresh approach to music in Wexford, it generated such interest that more than seventy people attended for audition. The choir now comprises of 46 members, both male and female, and there is an extensive waiting list. The first rehearsal was held on Tuesday September 18, 2007 in the Wexford Male Voice Choir's premises, in Westgate, and weekly rehearsals have continued there in preparation for various musical outings.
As Founder and Musical Director of Vocare Sue takes the choir through a musical journey. In addition to learning concert pieces, the choir members enjoy a fuller musical experience, in the form of voice production, breathing and rhythm exercises and sight-reading skills. All of these will combine and develop to produce Sue's musical goal - a choral group of excellence.
Sue's aspiration for Vocare is that it will become a musical group renowned for it's excellence in performance, for it's commitment to bringing choral singing to new audiences, and for it's members' enjoyment and fulfilment in this experience.
